We have tested the Finisseur Core Thermal Long Sleeve Jersey
Not all winter clothes need to be extreme or designed for sub-zero temperatures. The best example is this thermal jersey from Finisseur, the Core Thermal, designed for mild winters. Comfortable, light and very soft to the touch. This is a very practical item of clothing that should not be missing from our wardrobe.
An essential garment
We have already been able to pedal several kilometres with this jersey, being able to verify how practical and effective a garment like this can be. The Core Thermal does not have any insulating or windproof membranes or water repellents. It is a piece that stands out especially for its high-quality fabric and whose main property is thermal. That is to say, it generates a zone of warm air between our skin and the tissue, so that it helps to keep our body warm.
The thickness of the fabric and the absence of these technical membranes make this jersey suitable for moderate temperatures. It is therefore not the most suitable for use, as a single garment, in very cold or wet areas. In fact, the manufacturer recommends it for use between 8º and 16ºC.
The Core Thermal has, in our opinion, another alternative use to the exclusive as a thermal jersey. We refer to the use as an intermediate layer. For use under a thin windproof or waterproof jacket. In this case, the Core Thermal jersey would act as a temperature generator between the first layer and the third and most external layer. In this case, it is best to use it in very cold and humid environments, although always in combination with a first layer or thermal shirt and an insulating jacket or outer layer.
Because of this versatility, because of this duality of use, we believe that this jersey should be an almost essential garment for any cyclist, having in it a practical solution for mild and extreme temperatures in winter.
Absolute comfort
The Italian Carvico fabric and its elasticity, especially in the area under the sleeves, and its lightness make this jersey particularly comfortable. So much so that you forget you’re wearing it. This is particularly true if you also choose a size that is more or less fitted In this case, the Core Thermal leaves you total freedom of movement and also does not generate bags or wrinkles which, apart from being comfortable, are anti-aesthetic and make aerodynamics difficult on a road bike, above all.
If we add to the good fit the feeling of warmth, we have a garment that offers, so we have found a feeling of comfort of the most pleasant.
Clings to the skin
We would like to highlight two important points about this jersey to achieve the comfort and thermal effect it has.
The first is the perfect fit achieved in the area of the cuffs, where an elastic band makes the sleeve is perfectly adjusted and not enter air through that area, which would end up negatively impacting on our feeling of cold.
The second is also the good fit, but in this case in the neck area. This is a medium profile garment, there are garments with a higher neck, but due to its compression level and fabric density it is an area that perfectly protects our throat from the cold as well as offering a very good feel on the skin.
Final verdict
A jersey you cannot do without. As a unique garment, to be worn only with an undershirt underneath, it protects perfectly from the moderate cold, but also has a soft touch that amplifies the feeling of comfort.
It is lightweight and also adapts perfectly, even in the most aggressive positions on the bike.
Its use as an intermediate layer is also very practical, even more so if we consider that it is a thin jersey and therefore comfortable to wear under a more insulating garment.
