How to repair a wetsuit with sailfish glue: Practical guide
Lovers of triathlons or open water sports are well aware of the importance of taking care of their ally: the neoprene. Even so, there are times when, with use, they can suffer cuts and tears due to stretching when putting them on, rubbing against an object or footfalls during triathlon competitions.
Repairing a wetsuit is very easy, and we’ll show you how to do with this practical guide from sailfish. To do so, you only need 3 elements:
- sailfish glue
- Toothpicks
- Adhesive tape
Here we go!
Step 1. Locate the tear
First of all, we have to locate the tears to be repaired. It is very important to detect them in time and not let them increase in size. If the cuts do not exceed 5 centimetres, we can fix them ourselves.
Step 2. Preparing the glue
In the second step sailfish glue comes into play. We put a little bit of glue on a dish and stir to make the solution a little more watery. This step is important, as it will facilitate its use.
Step 3. Apply
For the third step we need some toothpicks. With these, we apply the glue to the inside of the wetsuit cut, ensuring that the entire area is well covered. and how do we know that we have applied it correctly? Easy. We will see the glue shine throughout the cavity.
Step 4. Adhesive tape
Next, we put a strip of sticky tape covering the cut area and indicating with an arrow the opposite direction of the cut. What for? This will help the cut to repair safely.
Step 5. Remove the adhesive tape
After 24 hours, remove the strip of sticky tape following the direction of the arrow, and that’s it! The wetsuit is repaired and only a slight “scar” is visible.
Repairing tears or cuts in wetsuits has never been easier. Follow this practical guide and get back to practising your favourite sport well protected. 5 steps and 3 elements, you don’t need anything else.
