Test: Finisseur Core Cycling Shorts Black
With their anatomical chamois designed for medium distances (up to 3 hours) and the absence of shoulder straps, these Finisseur cycling shorts from the Core range are perfect for wearing in indoor cycling sessions thanks to their fantastic comfort. But this is not the only use we can make of them.
An option for indoor cycling
Most cyclists wear bib shorts because they are very effective at keeping the garment in place and also help to protect the back from jersey movements that can expose parts of the back. But the straps also add a layer of fabric that hinders ventilation and makes them less pleasant on hot days. This is why they are highly recommended for indoor cycling, where aesthetics are less important and heat dissipation is crucial.
From a technical point of view, the Finisseur Core cycling shorts share all the quality features of the rest of the Core range. Made in Italy, the Topazio Coldblack technical fabric is made of 78% polyamide and 22% elastane and provides UV protection and quick-drying properties. It has 45mm wide compression elastics on the leg loops, with internal stitching for a better fit.
For improved support, these cycling shorts feature a higher, elasticated waistband. It is not an oversized waistband: the shorts are at the height of conventional shorts, so the waistband is not uncomfortable while cycling.
True to the Core spirit
The chamois used in these shorts is the same as the one found in other bib shorts in Finisseur’s Core range, the Nice Men by Elastic Interface. This is a chamois pad from the Crossover range, suitable for both road cycling and mountain biking. According to the manufacturer, it is designed for outings of up to 3 hours and uses the Eco version of the EIT X-Tract fabric. This fabric is made from recycled polyamide and elastane yarns and has a double channel structure to collect and wick away sweat.
As for the shape of the pad, it has a central channel designed to protect the male intimate parts by reducing pressure on the prostate and improving blood circulation. Otherwise, the Nice Men chamois has a very flat, minimalist design, which we found very comfortable, especially when we used it on the exercise bike.
For casual cycling without compromising on quality
In addition to indoor cycling, we think that the Finisseur Core cycling shorts can be very suitable for more casual cycling, when we want the advantages of using a great chamois pad but do not need other more technical garments. Paired with a T-shirt or even under shorts, they can be the solution for a relaxed and laid-back outing. There are specific sets that combine boxer shorts with chamois with shorts (both belong to the Finisseur Pro MTB range), but they are aimed at more technical and specific activities, with their own needs. For other less rigorous uses, we recommend these shorts from the Core range for non-technical and less physically demanding uses.
Multi-purpose cycling shorts
Cycling shorts that are much more useful than they might seem.
