Test: DPV Bicycle Light Set

See and be seen, it’s as simple as that – that’s what we ask of bicycle lights. Normally the most important light for this purpose is the front light. Depending on our needs, a light that allows us to be seen would be sufficient. But with this set of DPV bike lights we have all our needs covered: a whitefront light that allows you to be seen and also illuminates the road in the darkness, and a red rear light that shows our presence when we share the road with other vehicles.

A light to see and be seen

Starting with the front light, we have a twin LED with a total of 1000 lumens, which can adequately illuminate the road even when not set to full power. This clears up the doubt that often arises when choosing a light: with this light we will be able to see without any problems, with a battery life in on full power mode up to 1 hour, but we do not need the most powerful mode to see clearly in the dark, the mode that offers 2 and a half hours of battery life is powerful enough to ride safely, even at night and on a road without lighting. One of the most interesting features of this light is that, through a simple display, we can see the remaining battery time at the current intensity, both in the form of bars and indicating the time numerically.

The light is designed to be mounted on handlebars, even on flat handlebars of aero road bikes, with a rubber mount. The fact that we can always know how much battery time we have left is perfect for dosing the power if necessary. And another very useful feature is that it has two USB ports, a micro USB for charging the battery, and a USB Type A (the usual flat one) that turns this light into a portable battery in case of emergency.

This light can be used during the day using one of its three flash modes, which is very useful when driving on busy roads and adds that extra bit of safety from oncoming traffic. Its power in the first three intensity levels of the fixed mode is quite remarkable, allowing you to see a good part of the road clearly, even in total darkness.

Long-lasting flashing red light

If the front light’s critical task is to be able to see in the dark, the rear light has a no less critical, but easier to achieve function: to be visible. Since the advent of LEDs, this has become an easier task. LED lights are very energy efficient, and are especially efficient in flash mode, which after all is the most useful when we want to be seen in low light conditions and also during the day.

This DPV rear light uses 50 micro LED lights with a total output of 80 lumens, has four fixed light modes and four more flashing light modes. It is the latter mode that is most useful, as the flashing mode is very effective in attracting the attention of other vehicles sharing the road and direction. We tested this light during a long bike ride and didn’t really worry about the battery life at all. We have had it running all day, in full sunlight, on the second intensity level, for more than 8 hours without any problems.

In addition, the light has an articulated bracket that allows it to be positioned straight and to compensate for the angle of the seat tube. And its fastening system is also compatible with saddle bag support systems, including bikepacking bags.

There is nothing better at this price

This set of DPV bike lights is fantastic value for money, and meets the lighting and protection needs of the cyclist without a hitch. The front light has a very efficient mode that guarantees a battery life of up to 2.5 hours, illuminating very well in total darkness, and the rear light, in flashing mode, allows us to practically forget about its battery, beyond 8 hours.
