For the wind, for those first kilometres early in the morning when the sun is not yet warm, or to avoid the discomfort of drizzling rain. The Reld Trail Abyss is a great way to ensure thermal comfort when you’re out and about, whether you’re running on asphalt or on trails. As it is also extremely light, when it is no longer needed, it can be easily folded and stored away.
Protection with minimum weight
The best windbreakers should combine good protection against the elements with maximum lightness and breathability. The Reld Trails Abyss scores high on all of these important characteristics. Weighing just 140 grams in size M, you’ll only notice the protection, not the weight. Made from a combination of polyester (92%) and Spandex (8%), this windbreaker jacket from Reld offers remarkable protection at a very light weight.
To ensure good breathability, the Reld Trail Abyss includes a horizontal opening in the upper back so that body heat and moisture can escape without compromising protection. This rear opening includes a small flap to keep water out, and several stitching points that keep it open just enough to do its job perfectly.
Practical details
In addition to protection and breathability, a garment like such must be practical. In this sense, the hood included in this windbreaker jacket has a reinforcement in the fabric of its front part that, without constituting a visor, helps to maintain its structure. The hood, when zipped all the way up, is very close fitting, with elastic on the lower sides that makes it fit the contours of your face perfectly, for those days when you need maximum protection.
Other useful details are the side pockets with zip fastening. On the inside, these fold out to offer more storage space in a single, unzipped pocket. A third pocket in the chest area completes the Reld Trail Abyss’s generous storage space.
A lightweight layer that offers maximum protection
During our test, we used the Reld Trail Abyss both in the early morning and in the evening. In the first case it helped us to adapt to the temperatures, going for a run at dawn in a cold environment: zip to the top, hood on and maximum protection. As the day progressed, we were able to adjust its use to the needs imposed by the temperatures. First taking off the hood, then the jacket itself, folded and put in a trouser pocket.
Running at dusk, the rear opening allowed us to keep up our pace and take advantage of its great ability to wick away body heat and moisture. In addition, its white colour, without being refractive, has also allowed us to maintain good visibility.
We think the Reld Trail Abyss is the perfect companion for running, or even as an extra layer for mountain outings, as it’s lightweight and can be stored away without taking up too much space.
