Whether for trail running, hiking or simply to make our walks on the trails more pleasant and comfortable, mountain poles are an increasingly popular accessory. The Reld outdoor product range presents its own version of this useful mountain accessory. The Reld Trails Tekapo, with their carbon construction, provide the necessary lightness to make them indispensable, they can be disassembled taking up very little space, they have a very good grip on the handle and the necessary resistance for the most demanding uses.
Carbon for lightness and comfort
In addition to reducing weight, carbon provides good vibration filtration, so its use in these poles serves an important dual purpose. As they are also foldable in three segments, and come with a handy storage bag, they are an accessory that we will have no trouble taking with us, even when we are going to use them more lightly. The cork grip is wide, and even for large hands, it offers more than enough space for an excellent grip.
The dragonet is attached to the pole with a tab that is released from a button on the handle, but the system of adjustment and attachment to the hand allows you to remove it without having to detach it from the pole, which is very useful to avoid losing it. The metal toe caps grip well on dirt and rocky terrain, while the rubber toe caps are suitable for asphalt and other surfaces. The rosette is not very large in diameter, which may penalise them in softer terrain, such as mud or snow.
Quick and safe assembly
When folded, the poles have a 44 cm length. Although they are not the most compact on the market, and thanks to the light storage bag they come with, it is no problem to fit them in your backpack. Moreover, with a weight of 180 grams per pole, they are within the range of the lightest poles on the market. The weight distribution is appropriate, with the greatest weight on the handle, which facilitates swinging when walking. The assembly system is quick and easy, just pull the top part of the pole so that the metal piece that holds them extended is inside the pole and the tension in the cable that holds the segments together is released. This cable is also rubberised to protect the carbon segments at all times.
Excellent grip
During our tests, we particularly liked the grip, which is undoubtedly one of the aspects, together with the weight, that counts the most in trail poles like these. For a large hand, there is still some cork-covered space, about 5 cm, so that when climbing, we can hold the pole a little lower and thus maintain a proper posture. The dragon pad provides an excellent grip, and is adjustable by means of Velcro. Its padding is generous and comfortable, even if this reduces breathability. For those who prefer to use them without dragonets, the release mechanism is simple and effective.
In short, the Reld Trails Tekapo Carbon poles are very light, fold up considerably for easy storage, have comfortable grips, and deliver all this at an extraordinarily competitive price.
